The Nebraska baseball (10-4) team put on an offensive display to beat Minnesota (3-11) 17-5 in game 3 of the four-game series. The Huskers combined for 11 hits and four home runs, two of which came from Luke Roskam.

NU wasted no time in getting started as they loaded the bases with two outs as Roskam stepped up to the plate. The senior sent one over the right center field wall for a grand slam, the Big Red's second of the season.

Two innings later, Nebraska truly broke the game open. The leadoff batter got on base, and Cam Chick went yard for a two-run home run that extended the Husker lead to six. Four more hits in that inning and a Minnesota error made the NU lead 12-0 after just three innings.

In the fifth inning, the Big Red tacked on four more runs. After a sacrifice fly scored one run and a passed ball scored another, Luke Roskam was back up to the plate. Roskam sent a ball to almost the exact same spot as his first home run, this time for a two-run shot.

On defense, there wasn't as much excitement, as the Huskers just did their job. Jake Bunz was the starter and he pitched four full innings, giving up just two hits for no runs. In to relieve for him was Koty Frank who pitched two innings giving up one run on no hits. Quinn Mason was next to the mound and he struggled as he couldn't record an out while he gave up one hit for three runs. Trey Kissack came in to close it out for Nebraska and he pitched the final inning with one hit and one run allowed.

With such a large lead, the Huskers were able to end the game after seven innings due to a 10 run-rule. Nebraska almost let the 10 run lead slip in the seventh when the Golden Gophers hit a grand slam, but Kissack was able to finish it out

Big swings

The Huskers hit four home runs in this game and they accounted for nine total runs. Luke Roskam started off the game with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning, and followed it up with a two-run shot later in the game. Cam Chick also hit a two-run home run, his coming in the third inning.

Chick's homer started a huge inning for the Big Red as they scored eight runs, including Chick's two RBI. Leighton Banjoff also got in on the action with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Big swings like this not only drove in runs, but they create momentum that helps them string more hits together. Going into the last game of the series, NU will look to keep the bats hot.

Smart Baseball

While the big swings accounted for more than half of the runs, the other runs were scored with smart baseball. In the third inning, great base running from Max Anderson got him to third after his base hit. Because of this, he was able to score on an infield base hit from Logan Foster. Following this, with runners on first and second, both runners stole their respective bases and a wild throw drove one in. A couple more hits and smart base running scored three more and the Huskers led by 12. Heads up plays from the guys on the base paths allowed them to take advantage of every little mistake Minnesota made.
