Former Nebraska quarterback Scott Frost finally addressed the elephant the room.
As Frost is preparing his team for Saturday's 11 am CST match-up against Memphis in the AAC title game, he was specifically asked about the job opening at NU.
This was his first media appearance since Mike Riley's firing on Saturday
“I’m not going to say much,” Frost said about the NU job at his weekly press conference. “I can’t tell you how much I care about these players. That’s been true in my past, and that will be true every year that I’m coaching, and our entire staff is that way. These guys are special. They deserve my best, and I’ve said that all year, and they deserve my coaching staffs best.
"Every year in college football there are tough decisions to make, and those kinds of things happen. When the time is right, we’ll make them. I know it would be really hard to leave this team, because of how much love I have for this group of guys, and how much effort they’ve given us. All I’m going to do is go back to my office and watch more film. This shouldn’t be about me.
"I know the questions are going to come, but these guys have earned the right to have the conversation be about them, and the game they won on Friday and the game they are going to play on this Saturday. This shouldn’t be about me, or the future or anything else. This should be about this group of kids."
Frost also addressed Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos's comments regarding him being a candidate.
“I would be hurt if Nebraska wasn’t interested in me,” Frost said. “We are undefeated, and I’m from there. When you win, a lot of people are interested in you, so that doesn’t matter.”
Frost reiterated he remains focused on Central Florida and trying to secure a conference championship and a spot in the New Year's Six bowl game.
However, over the years he has followed what's happened at Nebraska, but at the same time, he's been focused on his own coaching career.
“I’ve been doing my thing,” Frost said. “I’m doing my thing here. I’m a loyal guy, and I’m loyal to my family, and my people that care about me, and I’m loyal to this coaching staff, and I’m loyal to these kids, and I’m loyal to my alma mater. I’m loyal to the people I go to battle with every day. That’s been at Kansas State, Northern Iowa, Oregon and here. Right now my loyalties are with these players.”
