Sunday was a bad day for former Nebraska football players trying to make NFL squads as at least eight ex-Huskers were on the cut lists as teams trim their rosters before opening the regular season this week.
Tight end Tracey Wistrom, one of four Huskers selected in the 2002 NFL Draft, was one of 16 players waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wistrom was a seventh-round pick.

Four other members of the 2001 Huskers, who signed as free agents, were also cut. Offensive tackle Dave Volk was waived by the Chicago Bears, cornerback Erwin Swiney was waived by the Green Bay Packers, defensive tackle Jeremy Slechta was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles, and linebacker Jamie Burrow was waived by the New York Jets.
The Bears also cut defensive tackle Jason Wiltz, the Packers cut defensive lineman Jared Tomich, and the Kansas City Chiefs cut safety Clint Finley.
