WEEK 1 FALL CAMP ROSTER NEWS

***The notable scholarship players that did not make the 105-man Fall Camp roster were redshirt freshman offensive lineman Brian Brokop, senior defensive end A.J. Natter (injury), senior running back Adam Taylor, senior corner Chris Jones (injury) and sophomore safety JoJo Domann (injury).

***Five true freshmen walk-on made the 105-man roster in wide receiver Kade Warner, outside linebacker Jordan Paup, linebacker Damian Jackson, linebacker Cody Liske and defensive back Jose Marquez.

***Redshirt freshman wide receiver Ty Chaffin was added to the 105-man Fall Camp roster after an injury to Warner in practice Tuesday.

***Junior Peyton Newell has moved from defensive end to nose tackle.

***Redshirt freshman Ben Stille has moved from the Cat outside linebacker position to defensive end.

***Redshirt freshman Collin Miller missed the spring with an injury. He played defensive end in 2016, but will play inside linebacker in Bob Diaco's 3-4 defense.

***Senior Joshua Kalu will stay at safety and not move back to corner.

***Freshman wide receiver Tyjon Lindsay will start out at the Z receiver position behind senior De'Mornay Pierson-El.

WEEK 1 FALL CAMP INJURIES

***Freshman wide receiver Cade Warner suffered a hand injury on Tuesday that will keep him out for an unknown period of time. He was replaced on the 105-man roster.

***Junior wide receiver Bryan Reimers suffered a back injury during skeleton work during Saturday's practice. Head coach Mike Riley does not think the injury will be anything that keeps him out long term.

***Sophomore wide receiver Conor Young did not practice on Saturday with an unknown minor injury.

***Senior corner Chris Jones could get his brace off as early as this upcoming week. It's unknown at this point if he could be healthy enough to return in the 2017 season.

FIVE PLAYERS ON THE RISE
Names on the rise  Early take

Jaylin Bradley (6-0, 180), RB, Fr.

No Freshman player has gotten more mentions by the coaching staff after one week than running back Jaylin Bradley. It's clear the staff is trying to carve out a potential role for the former Bellevue West product.

JD Spielman (5-9, 180), WR, RFr.

The shifty redshirt freshman is the type of player Riley has always had success with. Spielman was also one of the real standouts in NU's first scrimmage and has a great shot to win the starting slot receiver position.

Ben Stille (6-5, 255), DE, RFr.

After starting the spring out at outside linebacker, the staff decided to move redshirt freshman Ben Stille back to defensive end. Riley praised Stille's play at end following Saturday's scrimmage.

Guy Thomas (6-3, 230), OLB, Fr.

With NU's overall lack of pass rushers, freshman Guy Thomas has a great chance to make some noise this August. What also helps Thomas is the fact he reported to camp at an impressive 230 pounds. You don't find too many guys that size who have also been clocked at 10.7 seconds in the 100.

Tyjon Lindsey (5-9, 160), WR, Fr.

It would be hard to keep freshman wide receiver Tyjon Lindsay off this list. He's been as good as advertised through one week, and there's no question he's going to have a role on this football team in year one.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"But in my mind, there’s no doubt that (Joshua Kalu) is, and/or will be, one of the best safeties in the country, if not the very best safety in the country."

-Defensive coordinator Bob Diaco on safety Joshua Kalu
