Tim Miles press conference nuggets

Here is a quick recap of Tim Miles' press conference on Monday morning previewing Nebraska's exhibition opener against Northwood (Mich.) on Tuesday...

***Miles said the reason they scheduled this exhibition game vs. Northwood was because of their head coach, Jeff Rekeweg, who was a three-year captain for Nebraska in the late-1980s. “Hopefully we can celebrate him by just kicking the crap out of him,” Miles joked.

***Miles said he’s going to hold Anton Gill (knee and groin injury) and Isaiah Roby (joint in his finger) for the exhibition game.

***Miles said it will depend on the night as to how much they will experiment with different lineups early on this season. He said there are still groups that aren’t really clicking together, which impacts how they execute game plans at times.

***Miles said the redshirt statuses for some players “has not been discussed. (But) it’s been brought up.” He said it will ultimately be up to the players on that. He’ll have more on that prior to Saturday's season opener.

***Miles said Isaac Copeland still gets a little sore with his back, but not nearly as bad as Gill has been with his knee and now groin. Miles said Gill has been held out the past 4-5 days to allow his knee to heal.

***Miles said they’ve had to tone down practices a bit lately because the intensity has been so high from the players. He said that’s obviously a good problem to have and a credit to the fire NU has on its roster.

***Miles said he still believes Glynn Watson is an All-Big Ten caliber player right now. He said Watson is shooting it better than ever and he’s passing the ball better.

***Miles said the two scrimmages before the year have really helped prepare the team for the start of the season. Playing live game situations against high-major opponents gave the team a great taste of what to expect this year.

***Miles said he’s very excited to unveil this team to the fans for a real game in Lincoln. He said the staff has put a lot of work into assembling this roster, and they know what they’re all capable of. “I’m really looking forward to making Pinnacle Banke Arena a lot of fun.”
