Monday kicked off the first day that the transfer portal is officially open for business during the winter portal window. Programs across the country – including Nebraska football – can now officially contact prospects who have entered their name into it and become free agents.

Every program has its own specific positions it will be looking to bolster through the transfer portal. Nebraska is no different.

As Husker players enter the portal or – like in Emmett Johnson's case, withdraw from the portal – the positions where Nebraska will need instant help are becoming clearer.

Here is a list of Nebraska's top five positions of need – as we stand here today – as the transfer portal officially takes center stage in college football this week.
