Nebraska lives up to the hype for Simmons

Fort Pierce (Fla.) Central linebacker Greg Simmons committed to Nebraska shortly after visiting in late June and his official visit this past weekend only strengthened that status.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Simmons heard from all of the coaches how great the atmosphere would be in Lincoln for a game and it lived up to the hype according to the talented linebacker prospect. So much so that he can't wait to get back.

"When I came (to Nebraska) for the Big Red Weekend they were telling me about how the atmosphere was going to be in Lincoln, Nebraska for a game, but then when I came back this weekend it was everything the coaches told me it was going to be and more," Simmons said. "I mean, everybody loves our football team. It was just a great, great atmosphere at the game."
Simmons said he enjoyed every aspect of his visit, but he especially enjoyed being able to be around his future teammates and coaches.
"I was in the locker room with the players before the game," Simmons said. "They gave me dap, much respect. I just soaked it all in and it was just a great feeling. My host was Avery Anderson, but I probably met the whole team. Avery is a great dude. He showed me around the city, we got a chance to meet Tommy Armstrong the quarterback, he just showed me a phenomenal time.
"I got a chance to meet coach (Mike) Riley again, I reunited with him. He's still a great guy and I believe he's one of the best coaches in the nation. He deserved that win, he should have got that win. Even though it was a tough loss, it was a great game. Just a really great game."
The fact that the Huskers lost on a last second Hail Mary didn't put a damper on Simmons' weekend one bit.
"You know, whatever happened, it happened for a reason," Simmons said about the outcome of the game. "I mean, everyone was sad that it ended on a Hail Mary, but (the trip) was still good.
"They had a lot of adversity in that game being down by 10 and coming back. Everyone had to step up because a lot of key players were down or out. There's no doubt that Nebraska will be a great team this year, BYU just came to play and won on the last play."
Simmons says his commitment is as strong as ever. In fact, he was sporting a custom hat that read "Greg signs with Nebraska" while at the game on Saturday. He had such a great visit that he's planning to get back to Lincoln for another game this fall.
He was also doing some recruiting on fellow official visitors Rivals250 wide receiver Darian Owens of Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West and offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum of Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern.
"All three of us, we all had a great time," Simmons said. "We all had great hosts and we all three actually went to Tommy's house and we just had a ball, man. I was doing some recruiting on them and they all like it. They all like it a lot and Nebraska is right at the top of their schools and I didn't hear anything negative."
