Nebraska Depth Chart: Teddy Prochazka among three new OL starters vs Purdue

Nebraska football and coach Matt Rhule have released the Huskers' official depth chart for their Week 9 game against Purdue this Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Keep in mind that "anybody that’s an ‘OR’ we just put them alphabetically," Rhule has said about the depth chart. "Just, for me, the depth chart is an organism. It’s ever-changing. I’m not a big ‘set it in stone’ kind of guy. We’re going to play guys, and the competition is always there and you have the power to change your situation. That’ll kind of be a weekly thing."

Notable Changes: Three new OL starters

There are several changes on Nebraska's depth chart, especially on an offense that has been decimated due to injuries. Here are all the notable changes from last week to this week:

Offense:

>> Teddy Prochazka is back as the starting left tackle following Turner Corcoran's season-ending foot injury. The third-year sophomore Prochazka was slowed in the spring and fall camps due to injuries he sustained last season, but has been used as an extra lineman in big personnel packages this season. The 6-foot-10 Prochazka started two games in 2021 before a season-ending injury and started the first three games in 2022 before another season-ending injury. True freshman Gunnar Gottula, a Lincoln Southeast product, will be Prochazka's backup.

>> Justin Evans-Jenkins will make his first career start at left guard in place of the injured Ethan Piper. Evans-Jenkins, a redshirt freshman, played a career-high 39 snaps last week against Northwestern after Piper went down and has logged 51 snaps this season while playing in six of seven games.

>> No change at center. While Ben Scott briefly left the Northwestern game after getting a bit dinged up, Rhule said Scott was at practice and will start against Purdue.

>> With Nouredin Nouili undergoing surgery on Monday, Rhule said he expects Nouili to miss at least two weeks. In his absence, Henry Lutovsky will get the start at right guard. The third-year sophomore has played 91 snaps this season and, in the early parts of the year, consistently rotated with Nouili during games. Lutovsky played 27 snaps against Colorado, 21 against Northern Illinois and 25 against Louisiana Tech. Lutovsky started against Illinois and Purdue last season.

Backing up Lutovsky at right guard is Utah transfer Tyler Knaak. Knaak is a second-year player who's appeared in four games this season.

>> Behind starter Bryce Benhart at right tackle is Jacob Hood. The Georgia transfer Hood is a mountain at 6-foot-8 and 350 pounds, though last weekend against Northwestern was the first game he's been dressed for. Hood has never played in a college game yet.

Defense:

>> Jaidyn Doss will get the start at slot receiver for the injured Billy Kemp IV, who was hurt in the Northwestern game on the same play as Piper. Doss, a true freshman, has played in two games this season since returning from a broken arm that kept him off the practice and game field. He played five snaps against Illinois and nine against Northwestern.

>> Jimari Butler is now listed as a co-starter at defensive end with Blaise Gunnerson. Butler's move from Jack linebacker to defensive end seems to have paid off. Butler had a great game against Northwestern, logging a season-high seven snaps and a sack. Chief Borders is now listed as a Ty Robinson's backup along with Cam Lenhardt.

>> Malcolm Hartzog is listed as a starting safety, with previous starter Omar Brown behind him. At corner, Tommi Hill is listed as the starter opposite Quinton Newsome. With Hartzog playing more safety now, true freshman Ethan Nation is the top backup to Hill.

Special Teams:

>> With Kemp injured, Alex Bullock is listed as the starting punt returner.
