Manuel Allen commit: What does it mean for Nebraska?

Nebraska continued its recruiting momentum this weekend by picking up verbal commitment No. 6 for their class of 2018 on Saturday Rivals250 wide receiver Manuel Allen out of Corona (Calif.) Centennial.

Here are some quick takes and analysis on what Allen's commitment means to the Huskers.

1. Nebraska's recruiting momentum is very real and Allen's commitment gives the Huskers another shot in the arm in a big way. Especially since he decided to announce his decision while he's on campus with roughly 40 other offered targets the Big Red are after.

2. Allen is one of the top wideouts nationally and one of the top overall players in the state of California. Pulling another highly sought after prospect like Allen out of the state and away from local programs USC and UCLA is a big deal. The "Calibraska" movement is still very much a real thing and should only continue to pick up more steam. The three 2018 four-star commits from California natives the Huskers have already in this class gives them a total of 10 over the last three classes under Mike Riley.

3. Allen plays bigger than his long and wiry 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame might initially suggest. He's a physical wideout that has big play ability with both the speed to gain major yards after the catch and the balls skills and body control to make very difficult receptions in traffic look routine.

4. No stranger to working hard and facing tough competition every single day at the powerhouse Corona Centennial program. He's also heavily involved in the 7-on-7 scene where he squares up against some of the top overall defensive backs in the nation on a routine basis.

5. He comes from a program that plays at a high level with high expectations. Centennial is usually always winning and their players hate to lose. Allen knows what it takes to be prepared and ready to perform at your best on and off the football field. They play a very difficult schedule and only lost two games last year by a combined total of three points.

6. Getting into the door at a talent rich program like Corona Centennial could pay huge dividends if the Huskers can create a pipeline. Like maybe by landing four-star quarterback Tanner McKee.

7. Hands separate good wideouts from the great ones. Allen is a natural hands catcher and his length provides gives him a large catch radius. This is an area of his game that remind me of current Husker receiver Stanley Morgan Jr. when he was coming out of high school.
