Huskers unveil Pinnacle Bank Arena floor design

The Huskers' new arena will have a distinctly old-school feel, as the University of Nebraska unveiled the design of the court at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday.

The most distinctive feature of the Pinnacle Bank Arena court is the return of the outline of the state of Nebraska at center court, a look that adorned the Bob Devaney Sports Center from 1986 until 1996. During that period, the Husker men's basketball program made eight postseason appearances in a 10-year span, including a program-record four straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 1991 until 1994.
The floor will also feature the Block N at center court and a star for Lincoln as Nebraska's state capital and the "Star City." In addition, the court will also have a darker stain between the key and 3-point line and the Big Ten logo at both foul lines. First National Bank will have logo recognition on the court as fulfillment of their sponsorship agreement with Nebraska's media rights holder IMG College. Nebraska Athletics owns the naming rights for the court, which has not been awarded at this time.
According to Executive Associate Athletic Director Marc Boehm, the floor design was a collaborative effort in consultation with various stakeholders in the project, including the Athletic Department administration and both Husker basketball coaching staffs, as well as input from fans over the last year. The goal was to give Pinnacle Bank Arena a distinctive feel as the home of the Husker basketball programs.
The maple floor is being created by Robins Sports Surfaces in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Robbins All-Star Plus is the same model used at defending NCAA champion Louisville at the Yum! Center. Other NBA and college teams using this model include the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA and Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State and Xavier.
