The Vols jumped from sixth to second in the Bowl Championship Series standings released today, thanks to a 34-32 win over former No. 2 Florida on Saturday.
Nebraska is third, despite not playing in the Big 12 title game - one spot head of Colorado, which moved from seventh to fourth on the basis of a 39-37 win over Texas to win the Big 12 championship.
Miami has 2.50 points, while Tennessee has 4.79 (last week, the Vols had 11.87). Nebraska has 8.39 (up from 10.48) and Colorado 9.88 (up from 18.06)
Oregon, which edged Oregon State 17-14 on Saturday, remained fifth in the BCS, despite being third in both the ESPN/USA Today coaches and AP media polls. The Ducks have 10.44 points.
Florida fell to sixth and Texas slipped to seventh in the latest BCS standings.
Tennessee's move was aided by big moves in both the polls (from 4.5 to 2.0) and in the computer rankings (5.83 to 2.83). The win over Florida also gained Tennessee two-tenths of a point in schedule strength.
Nebraska can advance to the title game if Tennessee loses, despite losing to Colorado two weeks ago. The Huskers margin is provided by the computer polls; Colorado is aided by its strength of schedule and quality wins, but hurt by two losses.
Oregon, despite have just one loss, is hurt by the lowest strength of schedule in the top five teams as well as quality wins. The Ducks and Buffaloes have the same computer average.
Brigham Young, despite winning its 12th game of the season on Saturday, remained 12th in the BCS standings, one point behind No. 11 Maryland.
Illinois, which has also clinched a BCS berth, is eighth.
