Huskers land commitment from 2014 wide receiver

As the clock on the 2014 class continues to creep to an end, Nebraska has been in search of adding a few more receivers to their roster.

They were able to come closer to filling their needs today as they landed a surprise commitment from New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr wide receiver Jariah Tolbert.
The official Edna Karr Football Twitter account broke the commitment this morning.

HuskerOnline.com was able to speak with Tolbert during his lunch break and he confirmed his plans to sign with the Cornhuskers.
"Yeah, I did [commit to Nebraska]," Tolbert said. "I looked over their program and I saw that they've had good quarterbacks in the past and they have good quarterbacks now.
"I looked up the history of their program online and I decided I wanted to be a part of it."
NU's receivers coach has been Tolbert's main contact over the past several weeks as this has played out.
"Coach (Rich) Fisher is the one I've been talking to," Tolbert shared. "He started talking to me early on in our playoff run, during our district championship game.
"He offered me three days ago. He said that he likes the fact that I'm tall and that I can stretch the field for their offense. He liked my size."
Tolbert had 11 touchdowns as a senior for Edna Karr and was their top receiver for them over the playoffs.
"I'm passionate about the game of football. I'm a deep threat, I can go across the middle, and I'm a sure-handed catcher of passes. I will block too," Tolbert said. "I'm the full package."
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Tolbert gives Nebraska a big bodied receiver that they have been looking for and it also gives Nebraska two commits from Karr, a powerhouse program from Louisiana.
Tolbert joins current teammate and Nebraska linebacker commit Jaevon Walton in the Huskers' 2014 class, and they could potentially add another as receiver Glenn Irons is set to visit Lincoln on January 17th.
"Yeah, I've talked to Jaevon about Nebraska and he said he really liked it up there," Tolbert stated.
"He said that he's happy I'm going up there with him and that we can play on both sides the ball. He'll be on defense and I'll be on offense."
Tolbert had known offers from Kent State, Tulane, Northern Colorado and Utah at the time of his commitment.
Since they had started to recruit him, Tolbert paid attention to Nebraska's victory over Georgia in the Gator Bowl.
"I'm originally from Jacksonville so I was back there at the time visiting my mom," Tolbert shared. "I didn't attend the game, but yeah, I watched it on TV.
"I thought that they did a good job of protecting their quarterback and he can really throw the ball. He had a 99 yard touchdown pass during the game."
Tolbert has a 3.7 GPA, with a core GPA of 3.0. He scored an 18 on his first attempt of the ACT and he plans to take it again.
Tolbert plans to officially visit Nebraska on January 24 and his father will be coming along with him.
