NU Head Coach Bill Callahan addressed the media following drills, describing the workout as typical by Wednesday standards during a game week.
"It was just a normal practice today," Callahan said. "Our Wednesday practice is usually goal line and short yardage. We emphasized that this particular day. We worked a lot on nickel and our third-down package, and then we continue to work on our base offense and special teams. We worked long today. It was a good practice. Our guys worked hard, but they work hard every day. That just gives you a chance against (Wake Forest)."
Callahan also talked about what he has seen during film sessions from a Demon Deacon defense that seems to run several different fronts.
"They are a good team," Callahan said. "They do so many things that force you to study and adjust and adapt during the course of a game. They have so much variety in their system, especially from a defensive perspective. They jump in and out of different fronts and variations and they will give you a lot of different looks. It forces you to communicate. The good thing is that we are at home and not on the road. It would be tough on the road against this particular team at their place in a hostile environment."
Wake Forest will bring two talented running backs into Memorial Stadium Saturday night in two-time All-ACC tailback Chris Barclay and backup Micah Andrews. Callahan said that the Husker defense is not shying toward preparing for one athlete over the other.
"They are quality backs, no question about it," Callahan said. "(With) their depth, quality of backs that they have and their ability to run the football, they are going to come at us with everybody. With the commitment that they have, I'm certain that we are going to see all of their backs."
Nebraska will continue its game-week preparations for Saturday's 6:10 p.m. kickoff with a practice in half pads on Thursday.
