The game of musical quarterbacks across college football continues.

Last December, four-year Nebraska starting quarterback Adrian Martinez announced he was transferring to Kansas State. On Friday, the Huskers added Texas starting quarterback Casey Thompson from the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Thompson made his intentions known on Twitter. He officially entered the transfer portal on Dec. 19 and is expected to be in Lincoln on Monday for the start of winter workouts.

Thompson is the son of former Oklahoma starting quarterback Charles Thompson. The two visited Lincoln on Jan. 5 for a self-guided tour of the campus, but NU's coaching staff was not able to have any in-person contact with Thompson because of the NCAA recruiting dead period, which also applies towards transfer portal targets.

Besides Nebraska, Thompson considered Oklahoma, Auburn, Missouri, and Indiana.

While at Texas, Thompson took over the starting job at the end of 2020, replacing the injured Sam Ehlinger in the Alamo Bowl vs. Colorado.

In 2021, he claimed the starting QB job at Texas over Hudson Card in the Arkansas game. Thompson took 598 snaps at QB, compared to 222 for Card, according to PFF. His final PFF season grade was 78.3. In comparison, Martinez graded a 76.8 for 2021.

As a fourth-year sophomore, Thompson completed 165-of-261 passes for 2,113 yards, 24 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also had 209 scramble rushing yards and 41 yards of designed runs, according to PFF, scoring four rushing touchdowns.

He had seven runs of +10 yards and three runs of +15 yards, with a season-long of 41 against TCU.

Thompson's top game in 2021 was against Oklahoma, where he was 20-of-34 for 388 yards and five touchdowns.

Thompson comes to NU with two years of eligibility remaining. He is expected to be on campus when classes begin on Jan. 18.
