3 KEYS TO VICTORY

1. Give Webster and Watson some help

Nebraska has gotten a huge lift this weekend with the play of guard Tai Webster and Glynn Watson during the first two games of the Wooden Legacy. The starting backcourt duo has averaged 41.0 points per game the past two outings, including scoring 46 of NU's 71 points in Friday night's loss to No. 14 UCLA. The problem is few others have managed to step up and help the cause. Edward Morrow did drop a career-high 19 points vs. Dayton, but outside of that no other Husker is averaging more than 6.5 points over the two Wooden Legacy games.

2. Keep up the defense

On the surface it wouldn't look like Nebraska played all that well defensively against UCLA. A further look at the numbers quickly shows that's far from the case. Yes, the Bruins finished with 82 points and because the first team to shoot better than 50 percent from the field against NU this season, but the Huskers held the No. 1 scoring team in the country to 22 points under their season average. Nebraska accomplished that by controlling the pace and making UCLA move the ball in the half court. That needs to happen again vs. a Virginia Tech team averages 84.8 points per game and is shooting nearly 40 percent from 3-point range.

3. Get McVeigh and Gill going

When talking about the lack of help Webster and Watson have been getting lately, two of the first two names to mention in that regard are Jack McVeigh and Anton Gill. McVeigh and Gill combined to shoot just 1-of-18 from the field and 1-of-11 from beyond the arc. McVeigh is a guy who just scored a career-high 21 points two games earlier, and Gill had just had his best game as a Husker with 10 points vs. Dayton. Those two are going to have to be key pieces to the lineup all season long, and they must get back on track for Nebraska to close out the Wooden Legacy on a high note.

QUOTABLE

“We told them before that it was going to be amazing the growth we were going to see in three days win, lose, or draw, and I believe that it will continue. Virginia Tech is going to be a whole new set of circumstances. They are a tough, gritty, energetic, physical team. They’re going to throw multiple defenses at you. And they will play with high, high energy. We have to bounce back, we can’t hang our heads. (Saturday) we can go mope around and hang out with Goofy, Minnie, and Mickey, that’s fine. But on Sunday, we need to be ready to go in and go to battle."

- Head coach Tim Miles on the growth he's seen from NU at the Wooden Legacy

PREDICTION

Nebraska 76, Virginia Tech 72

Robin's season record: 5-0
