When Scott Frost and his coaching staff took over at Nebraska in December, the Huskers were ranked 94th nationally in recruiting. In just two months time, Frost and his coaching staff not only salvaged the 2018 recruiting class, but they also pushed the Big Red inside the top 20 nationally.

Frost spoke to the Big Ten Network for the first time publicly about the 2018 recruiting class.

“We got in as a coaching staff late on this on this recruiting process, and being able to get kids on campus and seeing their reaction to what we have to offer here and get the kids we have committed in such short time - I’m excited about these kids and this class,” Frost said. “I’m also excited about the potential to get kids to come to Nebraska.”

Signing day was highlighted on Wednesday by landing a handful of top players, including four-star linebacker Caleb Tannor out of Georgia.

NU was also able to add some real talent at the safety position.

“We want great athletes, we also want great people,” Frost said. “I think the kids that we are signing, they are not just good football players; they are great individuals. We definitely had some needs and some holes that we had to fill. Safety was one of them, and we feel that we signed as good of a class at safety as anybody in the country. Caleb Tannor is a dynamic pass rusher and going to be a great player here for a long time. There’s a lot of other guys we are really excited about.”

The other thing Frost really likes about his class is the large number of early enrollees and transfers they were able to add immediately to the roster for this spring.

“It was important,” Frost said of adding early enrollees. “We needed to add some players right away and gett those guys some reps in spring ball. We got some good players on campus, and we are looking forward to working with them, but there’s a lot of work to be done. The more new talent we can infuse, the better off we are going to be.”

Frost and the Huskers will now shift their full focus to winter conditioning and getting the team ready for the start of spring practice.

NU is expected to have one practice before spring break, and have the remainder of their practices starting the week of Mar. 26.

“We have a lot of work to do,” Frost said. “There’s some things that have been done here that I don’t think necessarily are the Nebraska way.

"We need to be strong, we need to be physical, we need to be tough. We are going to get the speed and the athleticism, but those other things are things that have to happen at a Nebraska football program.”
