The last few years Nebraska football has been a great program in months like February, April, and June.
They win the off-season, as some would say. They win the social media game with clever tweets and graphics. The only problem is the Big Red has not won in months like October and November, and that's why Scott Frost was brought to Lincoln.
I thought Frost's overall message on signing day was strong. He respects the work his staff did, as you can argue they accomplished as much in a short period as any staff in the country. However, Frost was quick to point out that this only the start.
"I don't really care about the ranking," Frost said. "It matters on one day, and that's today. I'm not here to try to win February; I'm here to try to win football games in the fall."
The numbers don't lie though. Of the 24 recruits NU announced on Wednesday, only five were holdovers from the Mike Riley staff.
The Huskers added 19 more signees under Frost, plus transfers Breon Dixon from Ole Miss, Noah Vedral from Central Florida and 21 known walk-on recruits. When it's all said and done, Frost and his staff will add over 45 new faces to this football team.
"To do all of that with a class that was ranked 94th when I got here, and to take it all the way into a top 25 to top 20 class is unprecedented with what these guys have done," Frost said.
You add all of that with a bowl game win over Auburn to finish 13-0, Frost and his staff have a lot to be proud about.
However, knowing Frost, this is just the start. He's not going to sit around and celebrate much these next few days.
His idea of a break if probably putting down his cell phone for dinner, because there's a lot of work that needs to be done in Lincoln these next few months.
"The job that they've done these last two months, I don't know if it's ever been done in college football, and I don't know if it will be done again," Frost said.
