Dominick Watt explains commitment to NU sight unseen

Today is Dominick Watt's birthday and exactly at midnight he announced his commitment to play his college football at the University of Nebraska. He told the Husker coaches about his verbal pledge a few hours earlier when they conducted an in-home visit with Watt and his family.

"It was just my relationship with the coaches since my sophomore year," Watt cited as the main reason for him committing to Nebraska sight unseen. "They just kept on going and keeping our relationship close. I could have went to college anywhere, but I felt comfortable with them. It felt like family.

"Coach (Jovan) Dewitt has been recruiting me since my sophomore year and [UCF] was probably my third or fourth offer. I committed to Coach Dewitt, Coach (Troy) Walters and Coach (Scott) Frost during my in-home visit with them last night."

The Cornhusker coaches were in his house for two hours and left around 9:00 PM, but Watt waited until midnight and his birthday to announce his decision on twitter.

Watt had visited Central Florida on an unofficial basis and especially liked the way their staff treated their players.

"They did an amazing job and they cared about their kids there," Watt said. "They did everything for them. They just came out and dominated and, when they went to their bowl game, they dominated Auburn."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound wideout prospect will now be taking his official visit to Lincoln on January 26. His mother will be coming with him on the trip.

"I want to see the education they have there, and the atmosphere and the town itself," Watt stated.

Asked what he would bring to Nebraska's program, Watt replied:

"Speed. And strength. I run like 4.5-4.6. Last season, I had like 879 yards receiving with eight or nine touchdown receptions. I also do punt returns and I took two back for touchdowns."

Watt said the Husker coaches indicated to him that we would likely be taking one more receiver in their Class of 2018 and then call it a day at the position.
