2014 LB McGrew looking forward to Junior Days

Stilwell (Kan.) Blue Valley junior linebacker Henry McGrew may not be a big name yet in the Midwest region but that could soon be changing.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker is coming off of a successful junior season and is starting to gain some serious interest from area programs like Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri.

"Our season didn't end quite like we had hoped but we did pretty good," Mcgrew said. "We made it to the second round of the playoffs and lost by one point to a team that we beat in the regular season. I feel like I did pretty good, obviously there are always things you can work on so that's what I'm doing right now."

McGrew is a very intense competitor on the field and said that he has been blessed with certain abilities that make him the player he is.

"I feel like my strengths are my size and athleticism," McGrew said. "I've got good strength and I'm quicker than I am fast. But my size and athleticism are my biggest strengths right now. I feel like I could play any linebacker position in college. I just want to get as big and as fast as I can."

McGrew does not currently hold any offers but feels that he could be getting a few following his upcoming Junior Day visits. His first visit will be to Lincoln for the Huskers' first Junior Day of the year on January 26th.

"Kansas has been talking to me a little bit, they offered me an invite to their Junior Day," McGrew said. "I've started talking with Nebraska and their linebacker coach (Els) over Facebook. They messaged me and told me that they would like for me to come up to their Junior Day. Then on Monday the Nebraska coach came to my school and gave me my official Junior Day invite.

"I heard from one of my friends that is committed to Mizzou that he talked to coach Andy Hill and that I'd be getting a Junior Day invite from them. Other than that, that's about it for now."

McGrew says he is looking forward to learning more about Nebraska's program and the opportunity to get to know the coaching staff better in the near future.

"I don't know a whole lot about Nebraska right now," McGrew said. "I know that they finished with a pretty good season. In my opinion, they should have beat Georgia but they finished pretty good.

"I haven't been able to make a whole lot of visits to schools yet but when I get up to Nebraska I'm going to be looking at how their program finish, their coaching staff, and I just want to see if it feels good to me."

McGrew finished his junior season with 109 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, and four quarterback hurries.
