Bellevue (Neb.) West receiver Zavier Betts was in Lincoln last week for an individual Cornhusker camp, and he will be returning to NU for the first Friday Night Lights camp.

"It was really good," Betts said of his experience working with the new Husker staff. "I learned from Coach (Troy) Walters that I need to rotate between the positions of outside and slot, and the left and the right sides of the field. And then, to work on getting my eyes on the ball."

The Class of 2020 four-star prospect the said that he is developing "a really good relationship" with Nebraska's new receivers coach and offensive coordinator.

The summer prior to his junior year of high school, Betts has acquired scholarship offers from Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Purdue, Minnesota and South Dakota State. Kansas State is also showing him considerable interest. Of those programs, he has only visited the Cyclones a couple times, in addition to Nebraska.

"I liked how their practice was fast-paced, their tempo was high, and they even broke out into a couple fights during practice while I was there," Betts said of his Iowa State impressions. "They also run their offense kind of similar to ours."

As much as he liked ISU's offense, Betts believes that Nebraska's new offensive attack under Scott Frost may be even a better fit for him considering how similar it is to Bellevue West's.

"It's almost identical," Betts said of the Huskers' new offense. "Yes, there is [a comfort level] with it for me. The new [Nebraska] staff is just a great group of guys that are working hard to get Nebraska back to what they used to be.

"It reminds me a lot of being at West with the way they run things. They have all these great men out here teaching these young kids what to do, how to do things, and how to keep on a straight path. I'm going back to Nebraska this Friday [June 15] for the Friday Night Lights camp."

Betts has some other football camps he is planning to attend this summer with the main one being at Auburn on June 23.

NU head Coach Scott Frost has had a few preliminary conversations with Betts since he arrived in Lincoln.

"One of the conversations we had when I was at the camp last week was about how big I am getting -- muscle wise and height wise," Betts shared. "We also talked some about track."

After a breakout sophomore campaign, Betts is looking to refine his games even further over the summer.

"My main thing is getting off of blocks better, which is what I struggled with last year," Betts stated. "So, I want to be able to work on that and to get DBs' hands off me quicker. I know that I scored 15 touchdowns last year, but I want to go further. Junior Johnson's record is 21 that he scored two years ago and I want to try to break that. I also want to get at least 1500 yards [receiving]."

As a sophomore, Betts participated in several events during the spring track season: the 100 meters [best time of 11-flat], 200, 400 and long jump [22-6], as well as the 4X100 and 4X400 relays. He made state in the 100, long jump and 4X100, but he did not medal.
