Nebraska's JD Spielman was selected a first-team Freshman All-American on Monday by the Football Writers Association of America.
The redshirt freshman from the Minneapolis area had a record-breaking season, finishing with 830 yards receiving on 55 catches to go along with two touchdowns.
He also added a 99-yard kickoff return this past season for a score, an averaged nearly 8 yards per carry on 10 rushing attempts.
Spielman's 200 yards receiving vs. Ohio State this past season set a single-game school record, shattering the previous mark of 167 yards set by former NU receiver Matt Davison in 1998.
Spielman is Nebraska's first FWAA Freshman All-American since wide receiver De'Mornay Pierson-El (2014), defensive end Barry Turner (2005), kicker Jordan Congdon (2005) and offensive lineman Richie Incognito (2002).
