Leon Jackson from Washington in the spotlight

One player that will be traveling to Lincoln next weekend for the game against Kansas will be the Rivals.com No. 10 ranked cornerback in the nation. Leon Jackson, who is the 6-foot-0, 200 pounder from Pasco, Wash., will probably play either running back or safety in college, instead of cornerback. However, with his 4.4-second 40-yard speed it is possible for him to end up at numerous positions on the field at the next level. Huskeronline.com checked in with Jackson to see whether his trip is still scheduled.
“I’m going to Nebraska this next Friday (Oct. 1),” Jackson said. “I always liked Nebraska when I was younger. They have always been a power-house team, when I was growing up. With Bill Callahan running the West Coast (offense) - one of my favorite offenses, as that is what we run here at Pasco High. I like them a lot.

“My mom is going with me. She is thrilled. I can’t wait. Everybody talks about Nebraska is like..when there is a football game that whole town just shuts down.”
He is quite familiar with one of the Husker players, who he might ended up meeting on his trip.
“One of their players - Adam Carriker - I played against him my freshman year. I was on the varsity my freshman year and everybody was talking about how big he was. He was playing quarterback and he threw me an interception. He threw it right to me and I ran it back for a touchdown. He made my dreams come true. He punished me when he was on defense though. I came up to block and he just trampled all over me. I was like…Ouch!”
Coach Dennis Wagner is recruiting him for Nebraska and they recently talked about the Southern Mississippi loss.
He has two other official visits scheduled - one to Oregon (Oct. 29) and Oregon State (Nov. 5). It is his intention to make all five of his official visits. He is not sure who will get the last two visits….assuming he ends up taking them.
The Oregon universities might have an advantage - close to home. But “it will come down to the education.“ He will be looking for the best school for his major - business administration. His ultimate goal is to play in the NFL.
Through four games he has the following statistics…and remember he is not playing whole games, as Pasco is a solid team.
“I have 31 (carries) for 559 yards and one touchdown.” On defense, he has approximately 15 tackles - most teams avoid his side of the ball.
Jackson had a recent invitation extended to him to play in the U.S. Army All-America Game. As a junior last season, he rushed for nearly 1,900 yards on a team that won the state championship. He scored 38 touchdowns, and picking off three passes at his safety position. He has the speed (10.5-second 100 time), the agility (35-inch vertical), and has silky smooth hands.
"I don't ever watch football just to watch it. I watch it to learn something."
"Anytime Leon touches the ball, he can score. He is that darn fast and that darn good." - Pasco coach Steve Graff
