Iowa State vs. Nebraska post game notes

***Nebraska's 27-20 double-overtime victory in the 100th all-time meeting between the Huskers and Cyclones was NU's 14th consecutive home victory in the series. Nebraska now owns an 82-16-2 advantage over Iowa State. The overtime game was also the first overtime match between the two schools.

***The double-overtime game marked the first overtime game at Memorial Stadium, as well as the first double-overtime game in school history. The win improved the Huskers' all-time overtime record to 4-0. NU scored a touchdown in each of its two overtime possessions and has now scored a touchdown in all five of its overtime possessions in school history.

***The win was NU's first over a ranked opponent since a 17-7 victory over Oklahoma State to open the 2003 season. The win improved the Huskers' record to 4-0 for the seventh time in the last nine seasons. By defeating the Cyclones in the Big 12 opener, Nebraska earned a win its conference opener for the 31st time in the past 32 seasons and was NU's 28th consecutive win in a conference home opener since a 1977 loss to Iowa State.

***Nebraska junior quarterback Zac Taylor completed 36-of-55 passes in this afternoon's game for a career-high and Nebraska school-record 431 yards. The previous school record was 342 yards passing set by Joe Dailey last season in a 59-27 victory over Baylor. Taylor broke the record on a 31-yard completion to Nate Swift in the fourth quarter, setting up a field goal that tied the game at 13-all.

***Taylor eclipsed his previous career-high of 192 yards passing against Maine by halftime today, connecting on 19-of-32 passes for 198 yards in the first half. Taylor connected on his first seven passes of today's game and Nebraska attempted passes on 17 consecutive plays spanning the first and second quarters.

***Taylor completed 6-of-6 passes for 47 yards on Nebraska's opening drive, connecting with five different receivers on the drive. Taylor also rushed twice for 12 yards on NU's opening drive that ended in a field goal.

***Nebraska senior I-back Cory Ross caught eight passes for a school-record 131 yards in today's game, including a 70-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter to give Nebraska a 10-3 lead. His 131-yard receiving day eclipsed Jeff Kinney's previous school record for receiving yards by a running back of 124 yards vs. Missouri on Oct. 11, 1969. Ross's 70-yard catch was the third reception of 60 yards or longer in his career, joining a 74-yard TD catch last year vs. Baylor and a 63-yard reception at Kansas State last season. Ross' two receiving touchdowns also tied the NU record by a running back, established by Ahman Green against Kansas State on Oct. 21, 1995.

***Nebraska sophomore wide receiver Terrence Nunn caught a career-high eight passes for 59 yards in today's game. Nunn's previous career high for receptions was five (55 yards) last season at Iowa State. Nunn passed that total before halftime with six catches for 48 yards in the first half of today's game.

***Redshirt-freshman wide receiver Nate Swift made a 14-yard grab in the Huskers' opening drive of the third quarter for his first career catch. Swift finished the game with five catches for 81 yards. Swift's first career catch was the first of back-to-back receptions on consecutive plays. Junior wide receiver Grant Mulkey also caught a career-best five catches for 60 yards.

***Taylor completed passes to 10 different receivers in today's game, including eight before halftime.

***Nebraska allowed Iowa State only a field goal in the first half of today's game, marking the fourth straight game the Huskers have held the opposition out of the end zone in the first half. NU has allowed only six first-half points in four games this fall. Nebraska has yet to allow a point in the first quarter through four games in 2005.

***The Blackshirt defense posted a 10-quarter stretch without allowing a touchdown, spanning all of the Wake Forest and Pitt games as well as the first two quarters of today's game. Iowa State's third-quarter TD to tie the game at 10-all was the first Nebraska has allowed since giving up a 52-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter of the season opener against Maine.

***The Nebraska defense sacked Iowa State quarterback Bret Meyer six times for 43 yards in losses in today's game. Nebraska entered today's game leading the nation with 20 sacks and now has 26 sacks on the season. Last season, Nebraska totaled 25 sacks in 11 games.

***Nebraska rushed for 26 yards in today's game, marking the Huskers' season low rushing total and the eighth lowest in school history.

***Nebraska freshman place-kicker Jordan Congdon connected on 2-of-3 field goals in today's game, and has now connected on 7-of-10 field goals this season.

***Nebraska sophomore Tierre Green returned a third-quarter kickoff 45 yards, a career-long return for Green, bettering a 43-yard return earlier this season against Maine.
