Defensive coaching veteran Gary Darnell has officially joined the Nebraska coaching staff in an analyst role.

The Omaha World Herald reported Darnell will receive $110,000 in that role, working under defensive coordinator Bob Diaco.

Darnell was a head coach at Western Michigan from 1997 to 2004. Diaco was his defensive coordinator in 2004.

Darnell has also served as a defensive coordinator at Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Kansas State and Wake Forest. He's been out of coaching since 2007.
