Nebraska's final addition to its 2018 recruiting class came this afternoon from Andre Hunt.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver out of Lancaster, Calif., picked the NU over Oregon State and San Diego State among others and announced his decision on live television. The former USC commit became NU's 24th signee in its 2018 recruiting class.
Here are some quick takes on what Hunt's commit means for Nebraska.
1. Nebraska wanted to add one more wide receiver to its recruiting class following the departure of Zack Darlington and they got their guy in Andre Hunt. The talented wideout visited Lincoln last weekend and it was that trip which sealed the deal for Hunt and his family.
2. Not only does Hunt help fill what was a huge need in this recruiting class, he was one of the top remaining receivers out on the West Coast that the Huskers could have landed and his skill set fits in very well with what NU is looking for in Scott Frost's offense.
3. The first thing that stands out about Hunt is his speed. There were few defensive backs at the high school level that could run step for step with Hunt and he played a high level of football in California. He not only has the ability to stretch the field with his speed on the deep ball, but also turn a short reception into big gains. He's a true big play, home run threat at the position.
4. Hunt is a fairly polished wideout in terms of his route running ability and understanding the nuances of the position. The former USC commit can gain separation from defensive backs with his speed, but also by running crisp routes.
5. The talented wideout shows the ability to track the ball and adjust while it's in the air. His overall body control and leaping ability aid him in making catches in traffic.
6. There have been some questions about Hunt's hands. However, based on his film, as well as what people I know that have watched in play in games and in 7-on-7 settings tell me, that should not be a concern. He has natural hands and shows the the ability to catch the football away from his body.
7. A lot of people wondered if the "Calibraska" movement was going to really tail off after Frost arrived at Nebraska. That does not appear to be the case as this new coaching staff has now signed three California natives in this class which just so happens to be the same amount Mike Riley signed in last year's class.
Hunt's senior season stats: Receiving: 67 catches for 1,185 yards and 18 touchdowns; Defense: 29 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions. Hunt helped lead Paraclete to a 13-2 record and a CIF Southern Section Championship last fall.
