Nebraska TE commit Brahmer eyeing spring return to Lincoln

In early November four of the Nebraska offensive assistant coaches were let go. The only coach that was retained was the tight ends coach, Sean Beckton. Nebraska commit Ben Brahmer, from Pierce (Neb.), has some curiosity around what's going to happen with the offense, but he was relieved that Beckton kept his job.

"I was just really glad that they didn't let coach Beckton go," Brahmer said. "I really like him. I do want to meet the new staff and I haven't caught up with any of them yet."

Brahmer is having a heck of a season on the basketball court for Pierce. The team is just 4-5 and 0-2 in league play, but personally Brahmer is putting up some big offensive numbers.

"I am in the middle of basketball season right now. I am averaging about 20 points a game, so things are going pretty good."

Nebraska is hosting two junior days the last two weekends of the month of January after the dead period has ended. Unfortunately for Brahmer, he will have to wait to get to Lincoln later in the spring when athletics doesn't get in the way.

"I probably won't be able to go," Brahmer said. "I am just really busy with basketball right now. I don't think that I can for either of the two weekends coming up."

With basketball there isn't a lot of time to do training for football, but he tries to get out and keep his hands sharp by just throwing the football around and doing some training when he can.

"I have been doing some little things to work out for football," Brahmer said. "I do play a lot of catch to try and keep my hands right."

Brahmer had a monster junior season. He had over 1,000 receiving yards and picked up a long list of accolades, including class C-1 player of the year.

"I finished my junior year with 63 receptions, 1,119 yards and 14 touchdowns. I was first-team all-Nebraska by the Omaha World-Herald, second-team Super State by the Lincoln Journal Star, first-team class C-1 by both papers, Norfolk Daily News class C-1 player of the year and I was all-district."
