Huskers add Florida defensive end commit

Nebraska has been on a roll lately as they've scored four commits over the last four days with the latest coming as a surprise with Plant City (Fla.) defensive end Sedrick King.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound King had been committed to Central Florida since last spring, but took an official visit that remained under the radar to Nebraska this past weekend. After the trip, King said he felt like he saw enough to go ahead and officially become a Husker.

"Yes sir, I have officially committed to Nebraska," King said. "After the visit I just felt like it was a fit for me. I decided to make my decision to go there after the visit. Actually, Sunday before I left I had told Coach (Bo) Pelini that I was going to go ahead and commit to them. Then I went ahead and talked to UCF today then let Nebraska know it was official.

"My favorite part of the visit was probably looking at the facilities and meeting with the players and the coaches. I was with Kevin Maurice most of the visit."

While King may not have been a name many Nebraska fans that follow recruiting were familiar with, he said that the Huskers have been in touch with him for a long time. They especially cranked up the attention over the last month he says.

"They had been recruiting me since last spring, but maybe like a couple weeks or a month ago that they offered me," King said. "So then I decided that I was going to take a visit there and see what it was all about. I went out there and I really liked what everything that I had seen."

The addition of King is big for Nebraska as they had a severe need for defensive ends after losing Darius Slade a few weeks ago.

Plant City assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Greg Meyer said they had a record breaking season in 2013 and King's play was a big reason why.

"Nebraska is getting an incredibly versatile athlete to be quite honest with you who has very few limits on what he can do athletically," Meyer said. "Sedrick is a kid who if you pigeon hole him as a speed pass rusher, he's going to be one of the best you have. We ran a lot of 4-2-5 that had a lot of 3-4 change-up and Sedrick was a kid that was just deadly off the edge for us, but was athletic enough and versatile enough where he could line-up and play coverage in the flat and do so in a dominant fashion. I think he might have had just one pass completed on him the entire season.

"The kid has range, speed and incredible instincts. Sedrick's football IQ and his game sense are remarkable. There were two games this year with the game on the line he intercepted screen passes."

King finished the season with 50 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, and also had an impressive 30 quarterback hurries.
