Husker safety Myles Farmer enters name in transfer portal

Myles Farmer has entered his name in the transfer portal, Inside Nebraska has confirmed on Wednesday.

Farmer, a grad transfer who will be eligible to play at a new program immediately, spent the past four seasons at Nebraska plus this spring. He was suspended by first-year head coach Matt Rhule, who said Farmer wasn’t part of the 120 to start fall camp.

Farmer started 11 games at safety last season and ranked second on the team in tackles with a career-high 73 and snaps played with 828. Farmer missed one game last season, against Michigan, due to suspension.

"It was for simple things, nothing major. Just wasn’t meeting some of our standards. He was not a member of the 120," Rhule said on Monday to kick off fall camp. "We'll wait and see how that all plays out."

Rhule said he didn't know about a timetable with Farmer and a possible return.

"I love Myles, he's a competitive kid. It's so hard when you have a new coach, right? They have different standards than you're used to," Rhule said. "So I get that. We've been patient with a lot of guys. We'll see what happens with Myles. The ball's in his court. We'd love for him to be here, but whatever he wants to do, I respect him as a man. So whatever he wants to do, I understand."

A physical and big safety at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Farmer came on strong toward the end of the season last year. He tallied seven tackles against Illinois, a career-high 14 against Minnesota and six against Wisconsin.

Farmer recorded five pass breakups in 2022 and one interception. For his career, Farmer notched 110 tackles and five interceptions.
