When Noah Fant made the move from Omaha Burke to Omaha South this year a lot of people told him it would kill his chances to play Division I football.

At the time Fant was considered one of the best football prospects in the state for the Class of 2016 and he was going to a program that hadn't put a player in Division I football since tight end Vershawn Jackson signed with Nebraska in 1993.
On Wednesday Fant proved the doubters wrong by picking up offers from both Wyoming and Nebraska, as he is without a doubt one of the top three prospects in the state for the class of 2016.
"It feels really good because when I transferred to South everybody was like they think this was going to kill my recruiting and they don't know how this would really work out," Fant said. "I used that as motivation to kind of prove people wrong that I made the right decision."
For Packer head coach Kevin O'Donnell Wednesday was a very special day to see one of his players pick up two Division I scholarship offers.
"I guess the feeling I have is just proud," O'Donnell said. "I'm proud of (Fant) that he's representing South and he's put himself in this position. It's just an exciting thing for the school in itself."
Everything started on Wednesday when Wyoming's staff talked to Fant in the morning and officially offered.
Fant had also been talking with Nebraska over the last week and they informed him as well on Tuesday they wanted to set up a conference call with head coach Mike Riley and defensive line coach Hank Hughes and that's when NU made their offer.
"It's been really exciting," Fant said. "I knew I had a conference call with Wyoming yesterday and I was really excited about that. Then Nebraska came in and wanted to talk and I was pretty excited about that also. Those are two great programs that I got offered by today. I'm excited that the hard work is paying off. I'm excited to meet the coaches and just keep going."
Both Wyoming and Nebraska told Fant they like him as a defensive end, but he always has the ability to play tight end on offense as well.
At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds Fant is also a standout basketball player for Omaha South. The Packers will play in the Class A state tournament next Thursday in Lincoln. As a freshman at Omaha Burke Fant was also a state qualifier in the triple jump in 2013 with a personal best mark of 42-6.
"Nebraska is really excited about me at defensive end," Fant said. "The tight ends coach was recruiting me also, but the main talk today was about defensive end because the defensive ends coach was the one that really wanted to talk to me. So I think they're primarily looking at me as defensive end, but then again the tight ends coach is recruiting me also.
"(Hughes) said he liked my first step off the ball and I have good hands off the ball and good moves. He said my point of attack coming off the edge and setting the edge was pretty good too. He said that's stuff has to come naturally and it's hard to coach in a kid."
Fant plans to be at Nebraska's Junior Day next weekend in Lincoln, along with scheduled visits to Purdue and Iowa State for Junior Days. His teammate wide receiver Monte' McGary will join him on his trip to ISU for Junior Day. Fant will also take part in the St. Louis RCS Camp in May, along with one of the NIKE Camps this spring.
As for a timeline, Fant didn't know where things stood, but a decision could come sooner than later.
"Right now I'm not sure," Fant said. "I have to talk to my parents more. From there they have a meeting set up where they can talk to Coach Riley and I guess we'll just go from there. I'm not really sure where exactly it's going to go from there, but I'm looking forward to finding a place I can call home and I can commit to."
