Defensive back commit and early enrollee Aaron Williams of Atlanta (Ga.) Carver informed of the news after receiving a call from the secondary coach who had also been his primary recruiter.
"I just talked to Coach Warren and he wanted to let me know he was going to be staying at Nebraska and will still be my coach," Williams said.
When reached, fellow defensive back commit and early enrollee Eric Lee said he had also spoke with Warren this evening who informed him he had been offered and accepted the position to coach on Riley's staff.
"Yes sir, I just talked to (Warren)," Lee said. "It was a great call to get after everything that has happened. I can't wait to be down there now!"
Both Williams and Lee said Warren told them he would remain in the exact same role under Riley that he had under former head coach Bo Pelini. The news of Warren being retained comes on the heels of over a week's worth of speculation as to which assistant coaches under Pelini would be retained, if any at all.
Earlier today during an interview on the Tim Brando Show on Sirius XM Channel 91 Riley hinted that at least one holdover from the previous staff would be retained and that there could end up being another.
"That's exciting to me and it's kind of hard too," Riley said in building a staff. "I've got some guys already hired that have already been on the previous staff (at Oregon State) and have made a move to keep a guy that's on (Nebraska's previous) staff.
"That's why I'm going to blend it. There will be some from Oregon State, maybe multiple or one or two from (Nebraska) and this place also allows you to reach out to somebody else that may be a great fit for a staff and a good football coach and a good person. I'm trying to blend those kinds of three factors together as we complete this thing."
Including Warren, Riley has now hired five coaches on his staff including defensive assistant Mark Banker linebacker coach Trent Bray, offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh, and special teams coach Bruce Read.
