Cam Taylor commit: What does it mean for Nebraska?
Nebraska's second new addition of the day came from Cameron Taylor as he officially signed with the Huskers Wednesday morning.
The 6-foot-1, 203-pound athleteout of Montgomery, Ala. picked the NU over Missouri and Auburn among several others. He becomes NU's 21st known commitment in its 2018 recruiting class.
Here are some quick takes on what Taylor's commit means for Nebraska.
1. Nebraska's coaching staff has said they want to heavily recruit the South and they've shown the ability to do just that so far. Taylor becomes the second signee from Alabama and gives the Huskers a total of 11 players from the South in its signing class thus far.
2. The Huskers are getting a versatile athlete in Taylor. He could play on either side of the ball but will start his career at Nebraska as a cornerback, which was a huge position of need in this class.
3. Taylor's primary position in high school was quarterback where he was extremely productive as a passer and runner. He proved to consistently be one of the best athletes on the football field at all times throughout his high school career.
4. Taylor is a terrific athlete that runs very well. It's difficult to get a great feel for his skills as a corner since he was mainly a quarterback in high school, but he has excellent body control and quick feet that should translate well to the other side of the football in college.
5. Physically, Taylor is put together extremely well. He's got good height and a thick, powerful build. His body type reminds me of a taller version of former Husker cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and he has a powerful upper and lower body. I could see him having the ability to play corner, nickel or safety while in college.
6. One thing that is clear from watching Taylor's film is that he has great awareness on the football field and is generally just a playmaker.
7. Taylor is known as a great leader, which as a former high school quarterback, should not come as a surprise. He has a tremendous work ethic and is a smart kid. The Huskers were able to hang on and secure his commitment despite a late surge from in-state school Auburn.
Cam Taylor senior season stats: Passing: Completed 77 of 130 attempts for 1,466 yards and 14 touchdowns to only three interceptions; Rushing: 117 carries for 1,030 yards and 16 touchdowns. Taylor helped lead Park Crossing to a 10-2 record last fall.
