Michael Bush, Kolby Smith and Will Gay drafted

The Louisville Cardinals continue to show in the 2007 NFL Draft, as even more Cardinals received phone calls from pro football teams on Sunday. Michael Bush started things off Sunday being the first name called on the second day.

Bush, a 6-foot-1 who decided to forego his senior year as a medical redshirt at U of L to enter the draft, was the first pick of the fourth round when he was selected by the Oakland Raiders. The 100th pick overall, Bush was bypassed by man teams on day one because of the complications from a leg injury he suffered his senior year.

"I'm just ready to go," Bush said. "I got a chip on my shoulder because guys were scared to take a risk with just a broken leg. I'm just ready to go and prove some people wrong and show them that I'm the back I once was in college."

Bush rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a junior and was poised to be a Heisman Trophy candidate before breaking his leg the first game of his senior season against Kentucky.

Two more Cards were drafted in the fifth round, including another running back, Kolby Smith. Smith, a 5-foot-10 native of Florida, rushed for more than 800 yards his senior season while splitting time in the offensive backfield.

A cousin of Chicago Bear Michael Brown, Smith was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 11th pick in the fifth round and the 143rd pick overall.

Smith's high school teammate at Tallahassee Rickards H.S. and college teammate at U of L, William Gay was selected in the fifth round and the 170th pick overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Saturday, former Cardinal defensive tackle Amobi Okoye was drafted as the tenth overall pick by the Houston Texans.

The University of Louisville football program has had 14 players drafted in the past three seasons.
