Ware diary: Workouts and tattoos

Get the inside scoop on your favorite team:

Former University of Georgia running back Danny Ware knows he surprised a lot of people by entering the NFL Draft early. But he saw a crowded Bulldogs backfield and a quarterback in Matt Stafford who might have the offense moving toward relying on the pass. So he figured it was time to leave the hedges behind and roll the dice. Ware finished the season as Georgia's second-leading rusher with 326 yards and three touchdowns on 81 carries. He also caught 14 passes for 184 yards. It was quite the comedown from his freshman season, when he showed flashes of brilliance by rushing for 692 yards on 138 carries. In this entry Ware talks about the tattoo that he mentioned in his first diary, signing with an agent, and making new friends during his workouts in preparation for the NFL Combine in Indianapolis in a couple of weeks:

How did the tattoo go?

"My dad didn't get his yet, but I got mine. The day we went he didn't have time to finish. We're getting 'Like Father, Like Son.' He was the first one of us to have a tattoo. When I saw his, that's what made me get one. I've had a few more since. I had six, now this makes eight (Ware got like 'Like Father' on his right bicep and 'Like Son' on his left bicep). Nah, I'm not worried that my dad will back out. He'll get it done."

Talk about signing with your agent, Terry Watson of Watson Sports Agency in Marietta, Ga.

"I don't really know how they got in touch with me. I guess some friends gave him my number, people I've met after games, saying hello. I met Terry while I was still playing, and I kept in touch with him for a while. He checked on me every day, not even talking about signing, just talking about how my day was going. I really respected that, so I wound up signing with him. He was cool, and he did everything by the book."

How are your workouts going at Competitive Edge Sports in Duluth, Ga.?

"They're still killing me. You just can't get used to them. Just when you think you are, they change them up, so you're body doesn't get used to it. But I like it. I feel good. I feel like I'm ready to go. My muscle fibers are tearing and growing back and allowing me to get faster. I'm excited, working harder than ever. I know I have to go put on a show in Indy."

Who are you working out with?

"(Alabama running back) Kenneth Darby and (Clemson wide receiver) Chansi Stuckey. I didn't really know Darby. I knew Chansi a little bit because we were talking to the same agent. Then we all met when we got here. It's like a little trio thing now. We're pretty much together wherever we go. It's a new friendship. We're all just trying to get in the NFL and get drafted as high we can."
