Hooper out with broken foot

MONROE, La. --- ULM guard Tony Hooper saw his senior campaign cut short after X-rays confirmed that he has a fifth metatarsal fracture in his left foot, head coach Orlando Early announced Tuesday morning.

After serving an eight-game suspension, Hooper returned to the team hampered by a deep thigh bruise. Limited to four minutes against Tennessee Tech, the Houston, Texas, native sat out the next two games before breaking his foot in a non-contact drill during practice.

"Tony's commitment to our program and team was evident during his suspension," Early said. "He did everything we asked and more. He put himself in the position to come back and we were excited about his return. It is just unfortunate about this injury."

A Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team selection, Hooper appeared in four games for the Warhawks in 2008-09, picking up three starts and averaging eight points per contest. He currently ranks 15th all-time at ULM in career points, third in made career 3-pointers, sixth in career steals, and 10th in career assists.

"It is very disappointing for our program and Tony Hooper that he is having his season cut short," Early said. "Tony has been a really good player for us over the last four years. He is an all-conference athlete and ranked in several career categories. Obviously we are disappointed. Through the support of our university we are going to help him in any way as he applies for a medical hardship."

The Warhawks return to action Thursday at 7 p.m. when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., for a divisional game against Arkansas State.
