Warhawks cruise to 97-43 win
The Warhawks entered the contest against Union College having won 40 straight wins over NAIA schools, dating back to a 1980-81 season loss to Belhaven. ULM pushed that streak to 41, with a 97 - 43 win over the Bulldogs.
Junior Dynile Forbes caught fire in the came, setting a new career high with and leading the game in scoring with 27 points. Sophomore Rudy Turner continued his streak of double-digit scoring with 13 points, his eighth consecutive game with double-digit scoring, while collecting his third double-double of the season, collecting 11 rebounds.
"We've known that Dynile can score the ball, that's why we recruited him," Head Coach Orlando Early said of Forbes. "He's just now starting to hit his stride and score the ball the way we need him to. He's taking good shots and making them."
For the first half of play, the Warhawks blistered the nets for 71% from the floor and 60% from beyond the three point arc. This put three players into double-digit scoring in the half, led by Forbes with 17. Also in the double-digit first half scoring was Malcolm Thomas and Jarvis Hill with 10 points each.
"It was a great game, we knew that we had to come out and play with confidence," Forbes said. "This was a good game and a good game to get us ready for conference."
Following the first half, which saw ULM take a 53 - 18 into the intermission, Warhawk shooting cooled off to 55.6%. Most impressive was the limiting of turnovers, as ULM had a season low 13 against the Bulldogs.
Freshman walk-on AJ Toms saw action for his second consecutive game, entering the game at the 1:55 mark of the first half. Toms scored his first career points in the second half, connecting on a three pointer with 2:14 remaining in the game.
Having concluded the entire non-conference portion of their schedule, the Warhawks will host eastern division member South Alabama in a Thursday night 7pm tip-off.
