What a Guy! Fodge wins punting award
Matt Fodge has been named the 2008 Ray Guy Award winner as the nation's top collegiate punter, it was announced tonight by the Augusta Sports Council.LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Oklahoma State's
Fodge, a senior from Garland, Texas, is OSU's first-ever Ray Guy Award winner. He averaged 44.1 yards on 31 punts this season, including 17 that were downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
A second-team All-Big 12 performer, Fodge had a net punt average of just under 41 yards. Opponents returned just 10 of Fodge's punts and managed only 51 return yards.
Fodge recorded a long punt of 71 yards against Texas Tech, which was downed at the Red Raiders' three-yard line. Fodge had 54.8 percent of his punts downed inside the 20-yard line, and seven of his punts resulted in a fair catch.
The other finalists for the 2008 Ray Guy Award were Louie Sakoda of Utah and Pat McAfee\ of West Virginia.
