Tide preps for A-Day
Jimmy Johns might get a look at outside linebacker before the end of spring drills.Following Saturday's Alabama football scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium, head coach Nick Saban hinted that inside linebacker
On Monday, Saban's hint became reality.
Johns (6-2, 233 pounds) switched from running back to linebacker during Independence Bowl practices in December, and worked inside at the weakside spot throughout spring drills until Monday.
As predicted in Saturday's BamaOnLine.com scrimmage notes, Johns' look on the outside came at the strongside spot rather than the 'Jack' position being manned by Brandon Fanney. Also Monday, another convert from the offense made a subtle change as Baron Huber worked at the weakside spot. Last week, Huber moved from fullback to linebacker, but worked at the strongside all week.
Other notables from Monday's practice:
*** Offensive lineman Drew Davis continued to work with the first group on offense at right tackle.
*** Converted tight end Charles Hoke continues to work with the second group at left tackle.
*** Wide receiver Will Oakley was back on the field working with the second group. On Saturday, Oakley was on a stationary bike for UA's scrimmage but was non in a non-contact jersey.
*** Defensive end Luther Davis worked with the second group Monday. Davis and Nick Gentry have both seen time with the twos at end this spring.
*** There were no changes in Alabama's players being held out of contact: Running back Glen Coffee, receiver Nikita Stover, cornerback Lionel Mitchell, offensive lineman Patrick Crump, lineman Brian Motley, defensive end Milton Talbert, linebacker Ezekial Knight and longsnapper Paul Silvey.
*** Stay with BOL later today for video and photo coverage of UA's Monday practice, as well as notes from post-practice player interviews this evening.
