Fleming doesn't sleep on AA Bowl invitation

Fleming in action
When Jamell Fleming received his invitation to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, he thought it was a dream. You see, Fleming had been sleeping when he took the phone call and officially received the invitation. Once the cobwebs cleared, the four-star cornerback realized had been named to play in the Jan. 4 game in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
"I kind of went back to sleep," Fleming - who is 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds - said. "I then woke up and thought to myself 'Did somebody just call me and invite me to play in an All-American game?' I then realized it wasn't a dream at all.
Fleming said fans watching the game on ESPNU will get to see a cornerback that is just as good in zone as he is in man-to-man situations. He said that versatility is something that makes him better than other corners out there.
"That's what I'm best at," he said. "I think I'm really good at coverage. I'm also a very solid tackler, but I like playing in coverage. Zone is easier to do - because it's all about reading - but man-to-man is challenging. That's what I love about the position. I love being challenged."
But that didn't happen a lot as a senior. Fleming said teams threw away from his side of the field and the other cornerback got a majority of the action. But he is excited about getting a chance to face great players in the All-American Bowl.
"I just want to play my best," he said. "I can't talk smack or anything yet since I don't know who we're going up against. But I'm really looking forward to getting to go to Florida. I've been through Florida and stayed down there when I was little."
Fleming is a longtime Oklahoma commitment. He says that pledge is solid and he has no plans on ending up anywhere else other than Norman.
"They're a good program, and I've been a fan of them ever since I was little," he said. "My across the street neighbor is a big Texas fan, and I used to really lay it on him all those years that OU was beating Texas. It also helps that my whole family is from up there, and I really like the coaches at OU. I'm excited about my future with them."
