Amazing Stats: Weather, offenses turn cold

Nothing says offensive futility like cold, hard numbers.

The stats are the facts, and it's hard to argue with them.

If you're down on your team's offense, find some numbers to back up your claim.

Southeastern Conference fans hold their league up because of its tough defenses, and there is more than a modicum of truth to that.

However, it also is the home to some miserable offenses. It has only two teams in the NCAA's top 25 in total offense. Six SEC teams are in the bottom half of the total offense rankings, including two (Mississippi State and Ole Miss) that rank below No. 100.

By contrast, the Big Ten has only one team ranked below 60th in total offense.

Auburn is the SEC's highest-ranked team in the AP poll, and it statistically has the worst offense of the league's ranked teams (49th in total offense). Florida is the only team in the top 14 of The Associated Press poll yet to top 30 points in a conference game.

Gators fans are grumbling about the offense - or lack thereof. So are Auburn fans. Ask Georgia about the offense, and you'll hear plenty of barking up the wrong tree.

And don't even get them started in Alabama.

With that in mind, The Amazing Stats presents a look at some stumbling offenses - not just in the SEC, but around the country:

Offensive touchdowns Alabama has in regulation time in six SEC games
Touchdowns Georgia fullback Brannan Southerland has in six SEC games
Touches for Southerland in those six games
Offensive plays by the Crimson Tide in regulation of those six games

Georgia WR Mohamed Massaquoi.

Clemson RB James Davis.
Yards per carry Clemson was averaging through its first eight games (7-1)
Yards per carry the Tigers are averaging over the past two games (0-2)

Points scored by Minnesota in a rout of Indiana on Saturday
Points scored by the Golden Gophers in their five games prior to beating the Hoosiers

Northern Illinois RB Garrett Wolfe.

26 Games it has been since Ohio State had a lower offensive output (224 total yards) than it did against Illinois on Saturday
