Iowa State at Kansas Recap

Game Ticker | box score

LAWRENCE, Kansas -- Scott Webb made folks in Boulder mighty happy. Webb kicked a game-winning 34-yard field goal in overtime to lift Kansas to a 24-21 Big 12 Conference triumph over Iowa State, preventing the Cyclones from reaching next week's conference title game.

Bret Culbertson began overtime by pushing a 41-yard field-goal attempt wide right for Iowa State (7-4, 4-4 Big 12 North), which controlled its own destiny following Colorado's 30-3 home loss to Nebraska on Friday.

Instead, the Buffaloes will face No. 2 Texas in next week's Big 12 title game in Houston. Kansas (6-5, 3-5 North), which became bowl eligible with the win, rallied from an 11-point deficit to tie the game, 14-14, when quarterback Brian Luke scored on a one-yard run and completed a two-point conversion pass to Derek Fine with 11:28 to play in the fourth quarter.

Iowa State grabbed a 21-14 lead on a one-yard run by Ryan Kock with 8:41 to play, and the Cyclones appeared on the verge of victory after forcing the Jayhawks to turn the ball over on downs with 2:53 to play.

But Iowa State went three-and-out, and Kansas needed just four plays to go 58 yards and tie the game on a 15-yard pass from Luke to Dexton Fields with 1:05 to play.

The Cyclones did nothing in the waning seconds and the game went into overtime.
