Matt Lagrone will run with the Pack
Matt Lagrone over the weekend.Nevada climbed into the national forefront with the superb play of unheralded big man Nick Fazekas. The under recruited power forward has been the foundation for the Wolfpack and now the WAC program is hoping their future can be led by another sleeper post player. They landed San Diego native
The 6-foot-9, 200-pound power forward from H-Town Christian recently committed to Nevada.
"I felt that their program just fit me the best," Lagrone said. "Plus, I have some family already out there. It just worked out for me to go there."
Lagrone's brother Carl just finished up his football career for the Wolfpack and is working on his Master's degree. The brothers will be in Reno at the same time next year.
"I felt like they wanted me the most," Lagrone said. "Both coach (Mark) Fox and coach (David) Carter were really great."
Nevada is certainly hoping Lagrone can fill the shoes of Fazekas, who has quickly emerged as one of the top big men in the country.
"I really expect to develop just like he did by improving my jump shot and my ability to drive to basket. Hopefully I can get better just like he did," Lagrone said. "They recruited me as three/four player and that they said I can come in there and help them crash the boards and pretty much do everything inside."
Lagrone picked the Pack over interest from San Diego and Utah.
