Tallahassee cornerback gets offer

video Ryan Hill scouting video

Florida State shouldn't have any problems signing a couple quality cornerbacks next February. Even though it isn't a huge position of need, the 'Noles are very involved with a half dozen or so quality cornerbacks. With so many top-notch corners on the board, the Seminole coaching staff has been stingy handing out scholarship offers.

The decision on whom to offer got even more hairy over the last couple weeks when four cornerback prospects all performed beyond expectations at FSU's football camp. Marcus Udell (Tallahassee Godby), Ryan Hill (Tallahassee Rickards), Zaccheus Etheridge (Troy, AL Charles Henderson), and Ochuko Jenije (Tallahassee NFC) all stood out and all showed enough in passing drills to justify a scholarship offer. But with only one senior set to graduate at this position, and a handful of offers already on the table, it's possible only one or two from this group will get offers.

From this group, Ryan Hill was the first to hear from the Seminole coaches. The 6-foot, 185-pound cornerback only attended one day of the camp but he made a huge impression in that one day. It took less than 24 hours for to the Rickards standout to get the offer he was hoping for.

"I talked to Mickey Andrews right after the camp," Hill told Warchant.com. "We just said we were going fresh. They haven't really been recruiting me over the past year but because they found out late who I was. He said they are now going to recruit me and he wants me at Florida State and he will do anything to make me a Seminole. Coach Mickey Andrews, I was really glad to hear that from him.

"He said he liked what he saw and wanted to have me run the 40 but he said there was no need because he saw enough that day. I guess that evaluation went pretty good. They had film but they wanted to see me in person first."

With a Florida State offer now in hand, the four-star recruit is up to 25 total. Prior to the new offer, Florida and Miami were leading the way but now he says it's a three team race at the top.

"Definitely, I would say top three," Hill said of FSU. "My top five is kind of going in and out right now. I've got Florida, Florida State, Miami and then Alabama and Clemson and maybe a team in California in there."

Even though Hill grew up in the shadows of Doak Campbell Stadium and is cousins with former 'Nole Corey Fuller and current 'Nole Sam McGrew, he isn't showing a favorite among any of the Sunshine State powers.

"Right now I would say they are even because I don't know as much about them as I want to," Hill said. "When I take my visits I'll know a lot more and I can decide then."

If FSU has an advantage outside of family relationships and distance, it might be the coaching staff. The four-star prospect really hit it off with the defensive staff last week.

"They way those guys coach I felt like I was already on the team," he said. "Coach Colzie and coach Andrews, those guys you can tell actually know what they are talking about. I've been to a couple camps where I felt the coaches knew the game but they really didn't know the situation with cornerbacks. Those guys know what they are talking about and have a rich tradition."

The No. 32 ranked player in the state says he will take all five official visits before making a final decision. Before then, he plans to be in Doak Campbell Stadium for the FSU-Miami Labor Day showdown.

Hill ran a 4.51 40-time on grass at the Tallahassee Nike Camp. On the field, he reportedly has given up only two catches during whole high school career. In the classroom he carries a 2.4 GPA and recently scored a 17 on the ACT.
