Youngblood gives trip to Austin very high marks
sign up for a seven-day free trial.Football recruiting really heats up this month. Don't miss the boat -
As is the case every year, millions of college football fans in the Lone Star State tuned in to watch Texas and Texas A&M tangle on Friday, and as an added bonus for the Longhorns, several top-flight recruits were in the stands to soak up the Horns' fifth-straight victory over their rivals from College Station.
One such prospect was Houston Washington's Reggie Youngblood, and the five-star offensive lineman said he came away very impressed.
"It was good, man. It was really nice," said Youngblood. "The fans were really friendly and they love the Longhorns."
Not only do Texas fans love their Longhorns, they also love to follow recruiting as much as any fan base around the country and they made Youngblood well aware of their feelings.
"There was all kinds of people that were calling out my name, telling me to come there, asking for my autograph. It was crazy," Youngblood said.
The 6-foot-5, 280-pound blue-chip did not get a chance to talk to Mack Brown, but he and his mother did get some time with offensive line coach Mac McWhorter. Among the topics where Youngblood would fit in with the Longhorn program and how he could impact the depth chart.
"I know they really want me," Youngblood said. "He was telling me how important I am to their program."
Prior to the visit, Youngblood was listing Miami and Oklahoma as his co-favorites, but he said his trip to Austin was enough to push the Horns dead even with the leaders of the pack, putting the Longhorns, Sooners and 'Canes "in a three-way tie."
Youngblood has an official visit to LSU coming up on December 3 and he will be in Miami on December 10. Oklahoma will follow Miami on the 17th and he's still planning to take an official visit to Texas. UT assistants McWhorter and Mike Haywood will also pay Youngblood an in-house visit this Wednesday.
Youngblood, who is also looking at visiting Tennessee, said he wants to take all of his visits before making a decision.
