Scott out for Purdue game

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. - Blue White Illustrated has learned that starting tailback Austin Scott has been diagnosed with mononucleosis. As a result, the true freshman did not accompany the Nittany Lions on their trip here for tomorrow's game against Purdue, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m.

It was unclear as of this writing who would take Scott's place in the starting lineup against the Boilermakers. Penn State's most recent depth chart, released Oct. 4, had fifth-year senior Ricky Upton listed on the second team and true freshman Tony Hunt listed as the third-teamer.

Heading into the Purdue game Scott led the Nittany Lions in rushing with 79 carries for 365 yards and five touchdowns. Upton and Hunt had combined for 26 carries, 121 yards and one score.

Against Wisconsin Oct. 4 Scott led the Nittany Lion ground game with 10 carries for 22 yards. Hunt carried four times for four yards against the Badgers and Upton played mostly in a fullback role and did not have a carry.
