Missouri lands in state forward

THE RIVALS150: 2015 | 2016

Since taking over the head coaching position at Missouri, Kim Anderson has wanted to make sure his first full recruiting class contained a player from Missouri. He accomplished that on Thursday night when combo forward Kevin Puryear made the call.

A 6-foot-7 power forward from Blue Springs (Mo.) South, Puryear received his offer from the new Tigers head coach just a few weeks ago and didn't need much time to act on it. Especially after taking an unofficial visit to Columbia on Wednesday.

"Coach Anderson is a man of integrity and honesty and that goes a long way with me," Puryear said. "I love the guy. He's a great coach and they are rebuilding the Mizzou program and I want to be a big part of that.

Ranked as a three-star prospect, Puryear is a strong forward who mixes the ability to play tough around the rim with the skill to face up and make jumpers. Playing with KC Run GMC on the grassroots circuit, he came on strong drawing high major offers from the Big 12, Big Ten and SEC.

Capable of playing as either a power forward or on the wing, Puryear says the Tigers coaches have plans for him to play out on the perimeter.

"They see me playing the three in college and coach Anderson loves how hard I play," said Puryear. "He loves that I'm a high character guy and every time he talks to me he stresses that to me."

Living only an hour and a half or so away from Missouri, Puryear has always had eyes on the Tigers program and now he's excited to be a part of it and looking forward to a stress free senior year.

"It's a little bit of both," said Puryear when asked if he was more relieved or excited to have made his pick. "I'm definitely excited. During the whole recruiting process it was a big weight on my shoulders. Now that it's over I feel like I can go out and enjoy my senior year."
