Wills leaves the Nebraska football program

Nebraska's bad luck at the defensive end position continues.

A University spokesman confirmed through NU head coach Bo Pelini that freshman defensive end Deandre Wills has left the Husker football program.

The Alabama native was expected to provide depth at the defensive end position for the future. Wills is the fourth scholarship defensive end Nebraska has lost over the last 12 months.

A year ago NU signed both Ernest Suttles and Dimarya Mixon in the class of 2013. Suttles was dismissed from the team last summer and Mixon failed to academically qualify.

In Dec. of 2013 the Huskers lost redshirt freshman Avery Moss due to a University suspension and Wills' departure is the latest hit NU has taken at the defensive end position.

Last February Nebraska also suffered a signing day surprise when Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood defensive end Blake McClain switched his commitment on signing day from Nebraska to South Carolina adding another blow to the overall defensive end depth in the program.

This fall the Huskers will work freshmen Mick Stoltenberg, Peyton Newell and Sedrick King all at defensive end to add more depth. Originally Stoltenberg was slotted to play on the offensive line and Newell at defensive tackle.
