Hockaday commits to Iowa

Jack Hockaday has made a few trips to Iowa City during the recruiting process and each time he felt more and more comfortable. On Saturday, the Class of 2015 linebacker decided to end his recruitment and make Iowa City his home for the future.

Hockaday said that he has known for a while that Iowa was going to be his choice and sat down with Kirk Ferentz this morning to give him the news.

"My dad and I went in to meet with Coach Ferentz today and we talked for a bit and then I told him I was ready to commit to Iowa," Hockaday said. "He got up and shook my hand and told me he was really happy to have me on board."

Hockaday, a 6-foot and 205 pound linebacker Maora, IL, is a three star prospect according to Rivals.com. He said his decision came down to feeling very comfortable with the Iowa coaching staff.

"I have been there a few times and I liked it from the beginning. I really like the coaches at Iowa, especially Coach Woods, Coach Reid, and Coach Ferentz. I have a very good relationship with them and it keeps getting better. I couldn't ask for a better fit for me than Iowa."

His future position with the Hawkeyes have been decided, but there is a question of where he will play in terms of a spot at linebacker and the coaches are already fighting over him.

"Coach Woods wants me at LEO and Coach Reid says he's going to fight for me to play in the middle or outside, so it's still up in the air. They think I can play all three of them," he said.

Hockaday says he has already started to develop friendships with a couple of the other Hawkeye commits in the 2015 class. He said he has spoken to fellow Illinois native, quarterback Jack Beneventi, and has become twitter friends with several of the other Iowa commits in his class.

"We have a pretty good class started now," he said. "I think we have seven commits now with mine becoming official. Now I'm definitely going to become a recruiter and try to help get more guys on board with the Hawkeyes."

Hockaday is ranked by Rivals.com as the #17 player in the Class of 2015 in the state of Illinois and turned down offers from Nebraska, Illinois, Duke, and Indiana.
