Clemson offers 2017 Lone Star QB

Frisco Lone Star freshman quarterback Jason Shelley has picked up his first major college offer, but Lone star coach Jeff Rayburn predicts it won't be his last.

"It will only be a matter of time before everyone is after him," Rayburn said. "He is a special talent and great kid."

Shelley took over as Lone Star's quarterback last season and looked to be a Jerrod Heard-starter kit as a dual-threat quarterback. Heard just led Denton Guyer to its second-consecutive Class 4A state title after committing to Texas as a sophomore.

The 5-11, 170-pound Shelley showed the same speed, elusiveness and promise of a solid accurate passer as he led Lone Star to the Class 3A regional quarterfinals against Kilgore. Shelley completed 99-of-161 passes for 1,346 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. He rushed for 1,621 yards and 19 touchdowns while competing in District 10-3A including eventual 3A state champ Argyle and Celina. Lone Star plays in 9-5A the next two years against Frisco Centennial, Frisco Heritage, Frisco Independence, Frisco Liberty, Frisco Wakeland, The Colony and Little Elm. Lone Star also has 2015 6-4, 285-pound tackle Charlie Grammel, who has been offered by Arkansas State, Tulsa and BYU and is being evaluated by several Big 12 schools.

Shelley is the son of former Dallas Desperado Jason Shelley, an athletic 6-2, 195-pound linebacker/receiver who was highly recruited out of California before signing with Washington before transferring to Central Ohio.

Clemson has aggressively recruited North Texas with offensive coordinator Chad Morris of Lake Travis. Clemson was the first to offer Allen quarterback Kyler Murray and Flower Mound Marcus tight end Kaden Smith, both of whom are top prospects in their respective 2015 and 2016 classes.

Add Shelley to the list Clemson identified early for the Class of 2017.
