Washington grabs LSU offer

New Orleans Edna Karr defensive end Isaiah Washington needed only a little time with his LSU offer before pulling the trigger on a commitment to the Tigers.

Offered by LSU coach Les Miles late Saturday afternoon at the "Boys from the Boot" recruiting event, the Class of 2015 prospect wasn't immediately biting. But Washington's feelings changed in a hurry.

"I just committed," Washington told TigerBait.com. "At first when Les Miles offered me, I didn't want to commit. But the longer I sat in there and thought about what I was going to be a part of, I was like, 'I might as well. I like the surroundings and everything they have going on. I just committed. I'm a Tiger."

Washington (6-3, 245) claimed offers from Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Washington State, TCU, Louisiana Tech, Tulane and Tennessee coming into LSU's big day.

"They said I've got a good upside," Washington said. "I'm very big, very lean, very long and athletic."

The pledge from Washington comes after former Karr teammates Gerald Willis III and receiver Speedy Noil spurned LSU for other programs.

"I'm LSU at heart," he said. "I thought they were going to go to LSU. But my big brother Donnie came up here Friday and said talk to them. If that's what you want to do, commit."

Miles was persuasive during their meeting.

"We sat down with my family and he said they'd love to have me," Washington said. "At that moment, I didn't think I was going to be ready to commit."

But Washington said watching the inspirational LSU "Boys from the Boot" recruiting video helped put him over the top.

"I went back down stairs and watched 'Boys from the Boot,'" he said. "I saw all those great Louisiana players that played for them and what I was going to be a part of. I said, 'I might as well.' Coach Frank Wilson asked me if I wanted to be a Tiger and I said 'Yeah!'"

The three-star player is currently ranked No. 18 in the 2014 Louisiana Preseason Top 35.
