Florida DB makes the flip from Purdue to Nebraska

Less than 24 hours after concluding his official visit to Lincoln, Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood cornerback Chris Jones has flipped his commit from Purdue to Nebraska.

Jones' family was able to meet Nebraska's coaching staff today during an in-home visit. After learning more about what head coach Bo Pelini and his program are all about Jones decided to deliver the news that he was going to become a Husker.

"Yes I have committed to Nebraska," Jones confirmed. "Coach Bo came down and I had my mom, two of my uncles, and my auntie talking with him and listening to what they had to offer me. They felt that with all Nebraska had to offer me it was a good place for me to be so I went ahead and just committed."

The 6-foot, 175-pound corner said he had a pretty good idea that he would be committing to Nebraska today and now that he has it's a relief to have the recruiting process behind him.

"Before they all talked to (Coach Pelini) I just felt like Nebraska was the perfect fit," Jones said. "So I just went ahead and did it. I was like 'I might as well go and after this I'm through'. I'm completely done with recruiting.

"It just feels like a big ol' weight has been lifted off of my shoulders."

Jones said one of the main things he liked about what Nebraska had to offer was the fact that all the players at his position are starting with a clean slate under new defensive backs coach Charlton Warren.

Jones said all of the Huskers coaches stressed the opportunity to play early if you're willing to prepare and compete.

"Everybody's slate is clean and everybody has to come in and work hard to get that position," Jones said. "That impacted my decision a lot. I know that I'm not going to have to come in and sit under people. Competing wise, it makes everything harder, but it's going to make me better at what I do."

Now that Jones is a solid commit to Nebraska, the Huskers will try to flip his teammate and current Louisville wide receiver commit DeSean Blair.

Jones said he would be working to get Blair to join him in Lincoln.

"I actually just texted DeSean to tell him," Jones said. "I'm going to get him to jump on the boat with me."

Jones gives Nebraska 19 commits in the 2014 class and helps to fill a position of need. He chose the Huskers over offers from Purdue, Indiana, and South Florida among others.
